American Innovation at Work: Applying American Gasification Technology, Reducing Our Dependence on Foreign Oil and Creating Texas Jobs
Fact Sheet
- The Beaumont project is a petroleum coke gasification facility that is planned for construction in Beaumont, Texas.
- The project will be located on a 400+ acre parcel of industrial land with road, rail and water access.
- The project is expected to cost between $1.5 and $2.0 Billion.
- The project will employ over 1,500 people during construction and will have 250 permanent employees.
- Gasification is a proven industrial process used around the world that converts low-cost, carbon-based materials like coal, petroleum coke and biomass into a high value syngas.
- Petroleum coke is a waste product from the refining of heavy oil. Over 25 percent of the world’s supply of petroleum coke is produced on the U.S. Gulf Coast, with much of this currently being exported as a low-cost fuel.
- The facility will convert up to 4,000 T/d of petroleum coke into clean energy.
- The facility will initially produce hydrogen that will be used in oil upgrading and the production of clean fuels and chemicals.
- Hydrogen from the facility can be used in the production of methanol, ethanol and other clean transportation fuels and chemical feedstock.
- The facility will capture CO2 generated in the gasification process. This CO2 will be used in enhanced oil recovery activities to produce up to 35,000 Bbl/d of US oil.
- The facility will use a combination of existing commercial gasification technology and new gasification technologies developed by the Rocketdyne division of Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne.
- The Rocketdyne technology was developed in America with support from the U.S. Department of Energy, ExxonMobil and ZEEP. It’s an example of American ingenuity at its best.
- The project was initially advanced by Eastman Chemicals and will now be advanced by Zero Emission Energy Plants (ZEEP).
- ZEEP is a private corporation focused on the commercialization of the Rocketdyne gasification technology as well as the development of gasification facilities around the world.
- ZEEP’s management team has led the development of major energy centers across North America.
